SAT & ACT

FREE SAT & ACT Registration: If you get free/reduced lunch you qualify for a fee waiver for the SAT and ACT. Using a fee waiver will also allow you up to four waivers for college application fees. See Mrs. Harris for a waiver or any questions.

PSAT

The PSAT is a standardized test offered by College Board as practice for the SAT. Students are encouraged to take it to see how their performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college. When taken during their Junior year, students can qualify for National Merit Scholarships.

SAT

The SAT is a standardized test primarily used for college admission purposes and is accepted by almost all U.S. colleges. Most often, Juniors take the SAT in the spring and Seniors in the fall. According to College Board, “SAT scores and high school GPA are a powerful combination. Used together, there’s nothing better at predicting potential college success”.

The SAT is made up of four content areas - Reading, Writing and Language, Math and the optional SAT Essay. To register for the SAT students must go to sat.org and create a username and password. If you receive free or reduced lunch, you qualify for a SAT fee waiver.

ACT (American College Test)

All North Carolina 11th graders take the ACT in the spring. This test is provided free of charge for North Carolina students. The ACT test measures what students have learned in their courses and measures their skills in English, Math, Science, Reading and Writing.

The ACT is similar to the SAT in that it is also a college admissions test.

Students choosing to take the ACT in addition to the spring timeframe must register and pay for the test at http://www.actstudent.org/ and create an account and password. If you receive free or reduced lunch, you qualify for a ACT fee waiver.
